Ask President Joe Biden to Present Attorney Fred Gray with the Presidential Medal of Freedom

On December 14, 2021, Fred Gray will be 91 years old. Mr. Gray’s work as an attorney for Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Victims of the notorious Tuskegee Experiments and other cases helped to steer the direction of the modern-day civil rights movement.  The result of his work is engrained into the fabric of world history and, these accomplishments should not be overlooked.  While he is still alive and, on his birthday, we want President Joe Biden to present the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Attorney Fred Gray of Montgomery Alabama.

If President Biden comes through, it will be an improvement over his predecessor who presented this award to Rush Limbaugh, an ardent racist Ku Klux Klan sympathizer. Mr. Gray’s work diametrically opposed people like Mr. Limbaugh and his ideology of hate and bigotry.  President Biden is a busy man and, a reminder of the work of Mr. Gray and his significance to civil rights must not be overlooked. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to contact President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to do the right thing.

To make this happen on or before his birthday, the Detroit Alumni Chapter wants you to contact President Biden by calling the White House at (205) 456-1414 or use the White House website at www.whitehouse.gov/contact to leave a message.  If you do this once or twice a day, the President will take notice and carry through with it. Please take 10 minutes of your time and contact them now.

I’m a State Representative MI-HD5 house and our office respectfully requested a Resolution that Fred D. Gray, a living Civil Rights Icon, be awarded the “Presidential Medal of Freedom.” It was denied. Reason given by MI House Republican leadership: No Michigan connections.

We must keep moving forward. With that said, we respectfully request that Fred D. Gray, a living Civil Rights Icon, be awarded the “Presidential Medal of Freedom
